Guilderland Announces #4-#7 Plastic Recycling Expansion

5/3/2010 3:58:42 PM

Supervisor Runion announced the expansion of the town’s recycling program to include plastic containers #4-#7. Previously only #1-#3 plastic containers were accepted at the town’s transfer station. Now #1-#7 plastic containers are accepted.

Some examples of common #4-#7 plastic containers are plastic drinking cups, yogurt containers, butter containers and prescription pill bottles. All plastic containers should be placed in the appropriately marked bin. This expansion of the town’s recycling program is effective immediately.

“We are asking all residents to do their part and begin recycling all items in this expanded group of plastics. The management of our waste stream is a serious issue for all members of our community. Through this increased recycling we will reduce landfill waste and make significant progress in preserving and protecting our environment for future generations and ourselves,” said Supervisor Ken Runion.

The Town of Guilderland has created a new Recycling flyer, which outlines the new additions to the program. Download a copy of the brochure here.

The Town of Guilderland is a member of the Capital Region Recycling Partnership, which is a group of 14 municipalities that work together to foster better recycling practices in their communities as well as reduce the amount of waste that goes into the landfill, thru waste reduction and recycling.

The Partnership has launched a new website, www.capitalregionrecycling.com, entirely dedicated to recycling. Information on the town of Guilderland’s program is listed on this site as well.

“I encourage all town residents to visit this website and use it as a reference guide for recycling in your daily lives. You will see what we are doing here in Guilderland and also in the surrounding communities. Waste reduction is an issue that affects us all and this website is a way to share information and ideas. The result will be better recycling for all of us,” said Supervisor Runion.
